Welcome to A Time of Miracles

In the 1990’s, before the Internet was so popular, I belonged to a “Rottweiler Club”. The club was a message board, where the “regulars” would answer questions, offer help and share experiences with other Rottweiler lovers. I read and posted to the boards on a daily basis for years, I felt these people were my friends, even though we had never met.
It was during this time that I experienced the helplessness of a parent becoming ill, my mother had a severe heart attack in 1999. Although I had friends and relatives that had been sick, this was my first experience with one of my parents being ill and it was heart breaking. There was nothing I could do to help, it was all up to her and her Lord, or so I felt at the time.

After leaving the hospital after my mother was stabilized, my mind was racing. I thought about the people I knew whose parents had been sick or died. My response in those situations had been, “I know how you must feel’, I believed I did know or could imagine how it felt to loose a parent. Well, the truth is, I had no idea how it felt at all, it was terrible. I got home late and went on the message boards to post what had happened and to have the members of the Rottweiler Board keep my mother in their thoughts and prayers. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well and woke up anxiously to get to the hospital. Before I left for the hospital I decided to check my email, when the box opened I couldn’t believe my eyes. My ‘In box” had over 100 messages, equivalent to about 1000 messages today. Every message was an offering of strength, humor, encouragement, kindness and healing for my mother.

I printed out the messages, put them in a folder and took them to the hospital. I sat on the edge of my mother’s hospital bed as I explained to her about the message boards and what happened. We opened the folder and read each message. By the time we got to the last one, things felt different, that heaviness of sorrow was lifted. I didn’t know if my mother would recover but it would be ok, everything would be ok. My mom is 93 now and attributes her healing, to all of the thoughts and prayers she received from this beautiful group of people. I can try to explain how it felt when I opened my email and saw all of the messages, excitement, disbelief, or how she felt when she saw the stack of messages….but I believe, you will truly understand, when it happens to you.
